After I walked back to my bike after meeting Tets in the car park under the tracks, I bumped into Sota who had just scored 3 soul and funk records from HMV (where I had spotted him earlier) and Coconuts in Kichijoji. He asked me where I was from and told me the records would have probably been 1/10th of the price or less if he could score them in the American. He told me he got his taste for Soul and Funk from his father who used to bring them back from the States. Sota told me he is a musician and plays bass in a band and I see from his instagram (@coff.coff) that they are playing some pretty good size looking gigs. He asked me if I played and I told him a bit of piano and he asked if I happen to play a Fender Rhodes, which coincidentally I did have for a good decade back in my Boulder days before it finally went on to Brian Hass of Jacob Fred Jazz Odyssey who no doubt destroyed it, the way he pounded on those things. I hope it’s still working. Then Sota and I geeked on the new MK8 Rhodes and about Tesco guitars. Anyway, Sota had a good vibe, and a good beard to match. Hope I bump into him again!
