Description

Limited 180gm transparent green vinyl LP pressing. The Snake is the first solo album by Shane MacGowan with backing band The Popes. Originally released in 1994, the album is a bracing set of songs that draw heavily on traditional Irish folk music while pinning your ears back with a raucous, full-frontal rock sound. Guests on the album include Johnny Depp, members of The Dubliners, Thin Lizzy, and The Pogues. Like a number of songs recorded by MacGowan’s previous band, The Pogues, traditional tunes are sometimes used as a base for a new song. For example, the melody for “The Song With No Name” is based on “The Homes of Donegal”.

    よっぱらいのジャンキーシンガー。だけど憎めない。歌はうまくないけどいいんだよね。沈んだパワーが。味が独特。天然記念物指定。10点中10点 らりって歌ってます、とんがりパワー

    ‘ Shane & The Snake Shine ‘
HelloI first bought Shane Macgowan’s The Snake album whenfirst released. I was very pleased to be able to come acrossa copy from Amazon some years later. The song writing skill of Shane Macgowan is wonderful. Hecreated such beautiful songs with The Pogues and has done soagain here on this record. I favour two of the tacks. One’s which shine out and prove Shaneis one of the best of songwriter’s. ‘Snake With Eye’s Of Garnett ‘ isvery dark. A tribute to the Irish poet James Maghan. Dark but still fullof tragic beauty. The track on side one concerning his lover of manyyears before is also worth a mention. Very sensitive and unique lrrics. A fine album from Mr Macgowan.

    four stars
cool album to listen to. 50% is very pogues-like and rocks from the start, the other 50% is more like alternative 80’s rock but seems to grow on one after repeated listening to it.

I heard this cd in Austin, Texas a few years back while visiting friends & just loved it! “The Snake” by Shane Macgowan & the Popes, in my opinion, is one of his best, if you like your Irish music rocking then this is it.
