    Better then I was expecting!
I’ve had the cart for one year now. Nagaoka has hit a home run with this cart, not one thing this cart can’t play and play it better then most. The cart is well underpriced for the sound quality you get, can’t believe they aren’t more popular then they are.

Very good cart, easy on the wallet and a easy setup.
I bought the NAGAOKA JEWELTONE JT-80LB having always wanted a Japanese’s’ cartridge since the 80s. This just became available in the U.S. So I bought it without having a reference to the Nagaoka sound before or any reviews that I could find. It was replacing an AT-VM95E which developed a bent cantilever on my Pioneer PLX-1000. On initial setup it sounded pleasing. Nice balanced engaging sound. Very good dynamics and not too bright or too much low end, just about a right balance to let you make any tone changes without exaggerating and frequency bands that should suite your tastes. Surface noise was a bit less than what I was used to (surprising since it has a 5,0 mV output) and it seems to track extremely well for a cart in this price range. Easy to set up, which was surprising given the “odd” shape. Just a pleasant cart that gets “out of the way” and presents music.

Early times, but it I do like it.
I’ve only been listening for 4-5 hours. It does require 25-30 for break in. I do like it so far. The bass is much nicer than my Grado red, and the highs are not as sharp as some and with my paradigm speakers I like the softer treble. Mids are well coupled and soundstage is very good.
