Morgan Fisher

The Queen of Rock ‘n’ Roll, Tina Turner lived her days in Switzerland. The Queen of Queen, Freddie Mercury, lived his early days in Zanzibar. The Dude of All the Young Dudes, Morgan Fisher, lives in Japan and has since 1984!

Keyboard wizard and maestro composer, Morgan is a bit of a Tokyo institution, and an actual living urban legend, having a long-lasting music career that has spanned the decades. He started with The Soul Survivors, who became Love Affair for their 1968 number-one hit single “Everlasting Love”. Soon thereafter he founded his own prog-rock outfit Morgan with members of Smile (ring a bell?). Next, he joined proto-glam legends, Mott the Hoople (I KNOW!) back when Queen, yeah THAT Queen, was opening for THEM. And speaking of Queen, after and during his foray with Mott, Morgan also joined Queen’s tour on keys as the first additional member of the Band (WOW! Can you imagine?!) The only thing that Morgan hasn’t done musically is stop. Listen to some of the artists he’s worked with: Robert Fripp, Lol Coxhill, Haruomi Hosono, Yoko Ono, The Pretenders, XTC, Penguin Cafe Orchestra, The Damned, Cat Power, Zap Mama, (just to name a few). Jesus, Morgan!

Having worked with so many geniuses, and having been there in the ’60s, ’70s, ’80s, and beyond, Morgan is chock-full of tales. He can spin quite a yarn that can start something like this, “Reminds me of backstage at Knebworth, ‘78. There I was, chatting with Freddie about the set when Bowie and Mick came over to tell us that Elton had just arrived.” Haha… If you ever get the chance to sit down with him, take it!

This is why it was SO fun to go record shopping with Morgan! He seemed to know something about every obscure record, or at least have some classic Pythonesque witty jab about the cover to make you chuckle. What a great time! Thanks for joining us, Morgan! And killer scores! Hope you’ll join again! Until then, looking forward to the next Morgan Salon!
