Sending a giant thank you out to all who came to share an afternoon and early evening of music appreciation and record-loving at Top 5 Records – Volume 15 “On the Road Again”. After an 8-month hiatus we found an amazing new home at Bar Kurage adjacent Mustard Hotel in Reload Shimokitazawa. This new space, run by the supremely cool and contagiously fun Wataru san and the lovely and smiley Haruka, made for a wonderful event. It’s a beautifully designed bar, stocked with all kinds of premium flowing deliciousness, and has an outrageously nice DJ rig, replete with brand spanking new Technics 1200 and CDJ-900s, gorgeous Urei rotary mixer, hawt Accuphase preamp and some phat-ass JBLs …sound-treated walls and ceilings, plenty of space, the works! I’m telling you: Luxury
My co-hosts, Tatsuo Fukutomi and Michael Warren thought we ought to add, not one but, TWO guest DJs to the events moving forward (it’s Top 5 after all) and we were fortunate to welcome veteran DJ of the 23-year running “Gentle Tuesdays” (at Edge End in Shibuya) Kae san who, frankly speaking took the tile MVP with a KILLER set chock full of underground music that had us all on our toes. Joining her was the enigmatic and charismatic jazz vocalist Miho Jonishi who took her first ever spin at the decks with a full Jazz set! Of course Michael and bemsha both spun some deep cuts and classics as well during their sets, but even more than their musical curation, I really loved and appreciated their Top 5 presentations that they, along with our guests all worked really hard on. Thanks Ladies and Gents, for raising the bar yet again and helping to make the needed impression to secure and invitation to keep coming back to Bar Kurage!
Finally a VERY big shout out to all who joined us as attendees, all the Tokyo Record Style and photohomies, as well the newcomers and new friends we made. You know who you are! We really appreciate you and we simply couldn’t do this without you, so THANK YOU for joining us and cheering us all on …and for shaking your booty with us!
