While walking to my bike after a long day at work, a captivating neon light coming a staircase below, led me on an unexpected adventure in Daikanyama. What appeared to be a tiny, two-seat restaurant concealed a secret world beyond, a hidden door revealed Débris, an underground speakeasy blending, music, art, and unique “medicinal” cocktails.
Inside, I was warmly welcomed by Miyu Yuka, and DJ Arow, pictured here. Miyu, the bartender introduced me to their signature ginger soda and explained that their offerings are inspired by Chinese herbal ‘kompo’ traditions. Despite the early hour and a quiet atmosphere, they graciously allowed me to film a short video (Check out my YouTube Channel at @TokyoRecordStyle and search “Débris”).
While I poked around making my video, exploring the eclectic ambiance of Débris, resident DJ Arow, pictured here, spun his original tracks and gave me a little theme music. After my video wrapped, I asked DJ Arow if he might want to step out onto the street and show off the wax that he had scored that very day. Gratefully he obliged and we went out on the stairs and snapped a few in the low light. While I photographed him, he told me about is collective CDJ Tribe and their upcoming DJ “vs” JV evet which you can read about below:
CDJ Tribe, formed by DJs arow, m-int, and Teppei Nishi, is a collective rooted in Shinjuku SPACE, known for crafting euphoric, psychedelic soundscapes that traverse genres like techno, minimal, and bass music. Each beat and layer of sound connects deeply with the subconscious, guiding dancers into unexplored realms of auditory experience.
“定 – Sadame” (consisting of ZECIN, Tōshō, and tatsuki kusanagi) is a cutting-edge VJ team that brings visual stimulation to its most refined form. Oscillating between the figurative and the abstract, their work elevates the concentration and immersion of dancers, transforming the club environment into a living, breathing canvas where light and movement converge.
This event brings these two visionary teams together for a night of groundbreaking sound and visuals, creating a unique experience for those seeking more than the ordinary club scene.
Thanks Débrs and Arow! More TRS on the way!
