Good grief! I love people, I really do. And I really like them when they like themselves and when they make themselves interesting and engaging and entertaining, when they have an effervescence about, you know, some fizz. Life is so short and every moment is precious, why waste it being a sourpuss, a curmudgeon, a pessimistic dolt. Go take a bite out of life. Go make some friends. Dare yourself your brighten those around you. Take a queue from this trio from Chengdu, China, Janet, Vera, and Shinki, who’ve come to Tokyo, on their umpteeth visit, dressed to the tilt, bubbling over with energy, excited to see their favorite Korean Pop band, Twice at the one and only Tokyo Dome! On their 5th day of a 10 day trip, I asked them what’s been the highlight so far. Their answer: “Right NOW!”
Bursting off the screen in this edition of Vox Pop, my foray into man-on-the-street interviews (not just photos), these three stole the show with the cool girl-band look, rainbow colored-hair, fashionable digs, and zest to make the world smaller through music. When I asked them for some musical recommendations, they suggest Arianne Grande (Janet’s favorite), Fujii Kaze (from Vera) and “BigBang, 2NE1, and YG Family ALL” (Super famous Korean artist recommended by Shinki) You’ll have to go check my Vox Pop archives on Tokyo Record Style YouTube (Link in bio – and check the LIVE video from Sep 16th, 2025 – https://youtube.com/live/Bq65baftl6M) for more details.
Though it might have seemed like an innocuous encounter, and a short superficial discussion, it was actually a short and powerful exchange of vibes and energy. I am so invigorated by the spirit of people like these who restore my faith in the friendliness and good-heartedness of people who want to be engaged, who refuse to clods, and who are making something of themselves simply by BEING! I mean it when I say that they had an aura, a glow about them, both as they approached me and that they left, leaving a warmth and light in a wake as they walked away. They dared to be bold, just in the most simple act of connection. Honestly it ws a little inspiring.
Thank you, Janet, Vera, and Shinki! Got a big hit of positive vibes off you gals! Hope you had an amazing time seeing Twice at Dome and I hope our paths might cross again someday! More Music, More Life!
